Lessons

I am a native English speaker and graduated from CELTA, Cambridge University's TEFL course which is the most thorough and prestigious Teaching English as a Foreign Language qualification available.

My lessons are tailored to suit your needs and interests, and we will cover the material that is most useful to you first. For example, do you want to learn English in order to:

  • improve your career prospects?
  • study?
  • make new friends?
  • talk to your grandchildren?
  • ...?

Each lesson will be divided between speaking, listening, reading and writing, and during the lesson I'll make notes of any grammar, vocabulary or pronunciation that need to be improved. I will then set you homework based on these which we will go over in the following lesson, as I expect most of your progress to be made outside of lesson time.

Practicalities

I teach in Notting Hill and Central London, and am available every day apart from Saturdays.

Please note that I require 3 full days' notice if you need to cancel, otherwise you are liable for the full lesson fee. However, I am always happy to reschedule to another time within the same week if it is available. If you are not happy with a lesson I will give you a full refund providing you give your reasons.

Rabia worked hard to build up a good rapport with the students in the classes she taught on the course, and she developed her ability to manage the classroom. She was effective in identifying student errors, and improved her design and delivery of practice activities which were suitable for the groups she worked with. She showed skill at setting context and eliciting target language from learners, and her use of concept questions and her drilling technique improved steadily over the course. She was imaginative in her use of visuals such OHP, whiteboard and, in particular, data projector.

Rabia's lesson plans were thorough, and she developed her ability to analyse language and to design lessons with appropriate aims.

By the end of the course, she showed particular ability in the following areas:

  • Setting context and eliciting target language using visuals (overhead projector, board, flashcard)
  • Designing practice activities and worksheets
  • giving clear instructions to set up practice activities
